ILOE (Involuntary Loss of Employment) is a mandatory UAE government insurance scheme launched in January 2023 under Federal Decree Law No. 13 of 2022. It provides up to 60% of an employee's basic salary for a maximum of three months following involuntary job loss.
In December 2025, I found myself having to claim ILOE. The financial safety net worked. The process of actually claiming it didn't. As a UX designer experiencing the pain points firsthand and with some unexpected time on my hands, I couldn't not attempt to fix it.

The ILOE claims platform suffers from a fundamental failure of clarity. Required information is buried, error states are unhelpful and the burden of knowledge is placed entirely on the user, at exactly the moment they can least afford the stress.

This project was built during my time between roles, I made a deliberate choice to turn an unpleasant experience into a portfolio piece. I used it as an opportunity to develop my vibe coding skills and push my Figma prototyping further.

Figma Make: Rapid ideation, iteration and prototyping
Chat GPT & Claude: Ideation and research
As a first-hand user of the system, the research phase was unusually direct. Every pain point in this case study is lived experience, not hypothetical persona work. AI tools helped accelerate ideation, while Figma Make allowed me to bring interactive prototypes to life faster than traditional tooling.

The ILOE scheme is genuinely valuable, particularly as economic uncertainty continues to affect employees across the UAE. The redesign doesn't change what the scheme offers; it changes how people can access it. Clearer document requirements, honest error states and proactive deadline management can meaningfully reduce stress at an already difficult moment.
